In Brazil, urban population growth, pollution and rainfall reduction trends are putting pressure on water resources. According to the World Health Organization most of the major Brazilian urban areas, suffer from either “water scarcity” or a “water stress” situation, being particularly exposed to the risk of water shortages. Increasing resources are required to provide sufficient, accessible, reliable and quality water supply. Over the next 15 years, it is estimates that around USD 100 billion in investments are needed to secure water demand in Brazil and sanitation concessionaries alone are not up to the challenge.

General Water (GW) offers alternative onsite water solutions to heavy users in São Paulo guaranteeing accessible and reliable sources of fresh and recycled water addressing non-existing or inefficient offer.

GW designs, builds and operates custom-made ground water extraction and wastewater treatment systems in clients’ location. Thanks to its solution, GW improves industrial and commercial water-cycles efficiency, with water savings of up to 80% and increase the fresh water volume available to local populations, reducing overall vulnerability against water scarcity.

Impact depth

GW sustainably addresses the water scarcity and waste water issues in Brazil by ensuring:

  • Access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene
  • Improved water quality by reducing pollution
  • Increased water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater

 GW creates impact by:

  • Increasing available water volume: Through tapping into alternative sources of water (groundwater), GW increases the total volume of water available to society
  • Reducing the need for freshwater through recycling and reuse of waste water: GW reduces the freshwater needs of its clients through recycling of waste water. Up to 80% of waste water is reused which dramatically reduces the need for fresh water
  • Discharging only treated waste water: Waste water which is not reused by clients is discharged as clean water
